about me

I’m a geek adjacent, who in her late 20’s, has rediscovered her love of all things PC and whilst I don’t claim to have the knowledge or the skills, this blog is a little insight into what I’m playing with this week.

I also like to offer up my opinion on anything tech based. I don’t work in IT, or near IT.

I grew up on computers. I got my first one when I was two. My parents have lost count of how many times I’ve used C:\del *.* and so have I. I chart my teenage years by technology. In 3rd form, I had a 386DX-40 and that became the PC we ran our BBS off. By the end of high school, I had a Pentium 133mhz which I did my IT papers on for tech and passed all three of them with merit.

I failed the entry test to get into the CBC at AIT (it wasn’t a university back then) and so I went into the workforce and haven’t stop since.

Some time was spent at art school, where I became fluent in the likes of Macromedia Freehand, Adobe Photoshop and Quark Xpress. I got my certificate in Production Graphics, which is a low-end graphic design qualification. I spent my days running a digital press operation and wrestling with the joys of postscripting for CTF (Computer to Film) for offset printing. And all this while doing my design work in Adobe Illustrator for clients such as Super Liquor and Hire A Hubby.

I was pleased to give that all up for a mainstream corporate job, where my affinity with computers ended up being used as our division would send me computers to use and abuse to troubleshoot the faults (faulty motherboard, hard drives etc) as well as server maintenance.

Now days I’m that person who does the IT basics around the place and doesn’t get paid a cent extra for it :)
