this is the year of the alikat

This year is already shaping up to be the epic year I thought it would be. I’ve got 30 days until I’m 30 however. And haven’t done much in the way of party planning. Or sending invites. ek! But we’re under 60 days until our LA holiday, which has me so excited, I’m writing lists of things to pack and things I need to sort before the holiday.

  • If I
  • Have a List
  • I Feel
  • Just a Tad
  • More Organised

Get it? LOL! A lot of planning has already gone into this trip and there is still some more to plan. I can’t wait.

I also had the realisation yesterday that in 6 months time, work permitting, I will be a tertiary student for the first time in 11 years. It’ll be a bit hard going back to that frame of mind and I’ll admit that the last time I was at tech, I personally wasn’t in a great place. So I hope that this time around, I will make a better go of things. I’ve already picked my papers. It’s that list thing in action again.

I’m also working on some photography. I went and did a sunset-ish shoot at Karioitahi Beach which is so remote that it has no cellphone coverage. I had a crap shoot and I should check my camera settings more often. I got home and most of what I have is out of focus or over exposed. But I managed a set of 10 decent images and a sequence I was able to stitch into a panorama. But it was enough to get me back in the creative frame of mind to

  • write the blog post you’re reading now
  • tackle my summer photography project
  • sit down and edit on my laptop instead of playing games

I am also really keen to do another time lapse project and work on my HDR which I think is a little dodgy. It could also be my choice of subject matter. Not sure.

And in the mean time, there is that constant Motorsport commitment thing as well.

The last time I started a year saying that it was “going to be my year” I couldn’t have been more right. That was 2004 and that year I purchased a section, met my now husband, finalised my house plans with the builder, got resource consent, got engaged and went and flag marshalled at the Bathurst 1000.

I suspect 2011 is going to be another awesome year for me – maybe that is a seven year thing – that once every seven years my ducks align perfectly, making them easy to shoot.

Watch this space – this is the year of the Alikat :)
