clicking away the moments

I’ve watched lots of time lapse videos in awe and always thought I could do something like that. I didn’t realise I had the tools sitting inside of my Adobe Photoshop Lightroom or my Proshow Gold for that matter. So since then I’ve been itching to do my own time lapse video and I’ve lacked the subject matter to use.

And then, upon a discussion with our, well, I guess shes an account manager, I decided that the signwriting of a hard sided trailer at work could be just the thing. And then someone else suggested I could also do the wrapping of a car. And now, I have many opportunities to try my hand at this new skill – even the airbrushing of a van rear. Unfortunately I’m behind the times with the production plan, so I missed out on that one.

Below is a recent time lapse that made news here in New Zealand which also inspired me to try this out!

So as I write this, my camera is sitting on the tripod, set up to do 500 exposures today – one every 30 seconds and it settings as as follows:

Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikkor 18mm-105mm VR
Shutter speed: 1/180
Aperture: f3.5
Focal Length: 18mm
Shooting Mode: Manual
Focus Mode: Manual

So watch this space, because I hope it works! Wish me luck :) And while the camera does the hard work now and I do the hard work on my laptop tomorrow, for those interested, here is a good instructional from Kat’s blog, which isn’t too dissimilar from what I’m doing here!

7 Tips for Shooting Better Time Lapse (This is where I got the instructions from for my little experiment!)

UPDATE: 300 shots down and my battery has died. Should have turned off VR on my lens as well. Will finish the shoot tomorrow! YAY!
