I will apologise now for this piss poor attempt at a blog post. I’ve been laid flat with the flu (not the swine variety) and its really kicked me around some.

So what techie kind of nonsense has been keeping me sane while I’ve been in isolation?

I’m now streaming videos, music and photos from my desktop here to the PS3 in the lounge over the LAN using TVersity. I’ve also found that Windows Media Player 11 and Vuze will also do this. I will sort out Windows Media Player at some stage, but TVersity seems very powerful given it has more codecs and you can configure how much cache etc are used to stream the video to whatever. You can also stream to your wii, other PCs etc. I promise to do a detailed post about that soon. Maybe.

I’ve also just added another hard drive to my desktop. Running with 2x 80GB drives did not really work out very well and I had to splash out. I decided that if I was going to spend $150 on a new drive, I would get some good value for money. I have no idea how long 1 terabyte will last me, but at the rate I am going, it might not be long.

I’ve been teaching the ginger how to rip DVDs to his laptop so he can watch them while on the road. As it happens a lot of hotels he stays at have LCD televisions these days, so a tutorial on external monitors will be required. He tried to steal my monitor cable tonight from my laptop, but I put a stop to that.

Anyway, I’m rambling. The weather has not permitted any photography, but I have found an awesome spot in Katikati, so come spring, I will head down there for a days work. I’ve also loaded geocaching on my cellphone. Might give that a crack too. I see theres a cache about 3 minutes walk from my parents house and another just two blocks over from here.
