why wednesday is the most exciting day this week

Aside from the obvious hump day connotations, and that I have a hairdressers appointment with the wonderful Geraldine Braks, its also the release day for iPhone OS3. For iPhone owners the world over, this is Apple’s chance to fix what many, myself included, felt was lacking from the current OS. Edit: Available to NZ from Thursday

As a recent purchaser of the wonderful technology that is Apple iPhone, and all the research I did prior to purchase, I was fully aware of the shortfalls in the current OS. But I accept my limitations as a user. For over a year, I had a Nokia 6121, which had copy & paste functionality. But I never used it. So what was the point of having it? Not sure. but I am looking forward to having that on the iPhone. I can copy web addresses into Safari and the contents of txt msgs into Tweets.

Other wonderful features of this upgrade include MobileMe Find my Phone and Remote Erase, covered in my last blog post. Theres also a compass. Please provide me, the ultimate urban dweller, with a reason why I need a compass in Auckland when I can navigate by the Sun and the Skytower?

Theres also the MMS (MultiMedia Messaging) which I don’t really use either. The cost isn’t part of my contract bundle and why MMS when you can email things these days right?

There is also mention of an improved calendar. That should be great because the calendar currently available is severely lame and I’m putting that nicely. I’m also looking forward to being able to tether my iPhone to my laptop and use my data on something that is a full screen. Although, I have that data sim from Vodafone NZ now too with all that credit on it and no way to use it.

And then there is stereo bluetooth. I only had a short play with Bluetooth on Saturday with my husbands Nokia car kit. It worked well actually, and I say that because it confused the living bejesus out of me when I wanted to make a call on my handset and the car starts ringing.

Theres plenty to look forward to with the release of iPhone OS3 this week. It will be like, to quote Tony Hughes, Christmas day when its raining donuts, or something like that!
