Dinner

It was another dull day here in the Whiskey Geeks household. Mostly spent with all three of us playing games of varying descriptions. The two boys on their playstations and myself on the Wii and the PC.

Anyway, the hamster was getting annoyed at his PS3 game and was loudly accusing it of cheating and the such, so after listening to this for a few hours, I decided to get him out of the house. So I took him to a new restaurant that has opened up here, The Pizza Box. There is already one in Pukekohe. I’ve never ever been there before, but heard lots of good things, so thought I’d give it a try and get hamster away from the playstation and out of the house.

I must say I was impressed. With change from $40, we had 2x pepsi’s, one regular classic pizza and one regular gourmet pizza. The classic pizza was mine, an Italian Stallion. It was light on toppings, but the way a high end pizza should be made. The hamster had the Meat Feast and well, I couldn’t see the base for the meat. His only complaint was onions, which he doesn’t like. But not bad for a quiet night out.

We didn’t try the dessert menu. We opted to cross the carpark and get a tub of ice cream for $5 from the New World instead. Saved us $20 on buying desserts from the restaurant. But Pizza Box FTW. I’ve attached their menu because I know that I will misplace the copy I have and also because I couldn’t find one on the intermaweb thingy. Cheers Ears.

The Acer Laptop Saga – Part One

The saga starts back in September 2007. From Noel Leemings I purchased an Acer laptop. I know. What was I thinking? Aside from the more than crappy battery life, it is an okay laptop. Not suitable for running vista, but I’ve disabled a few things so it does an ok job with performance.

Scroll forward to September 2008. It wouldn’t boot. Not a sausage. After sobbing into the phone to husband (I’d killed the desktop PC a month or so earlier….) that this wasn’t my fault this time. I dug out the receipt and my heart sunk. 10 days out of warranty.

I thought I would try and store – ya know – Consumer Guarantees Act and all (I’d expected two years life out of the laptop to be honest) and I was laughed at by Noel Leemings. Fail.

Desolate and stuck with the dead laptop, I called Acer Sydney and the lovely man on the helpdesk, said it was okay, and they would extend my warranty until the repairs were completed which would take no more than two weeks. Acer FTW. Well, for that particular day anyhow. So I took my laptop in to the Acer offices in Ellerslie, signed it over and that was the last I saw of it for a whole four weeks.

Everyone in this house will testify that for those four weeks, I was the most unbearable person on this earth. And so will my co-workers in the office because I would spend hours on hold hoping that Acer could tell me where my laptop was and when it would be coming back to New Zealand…..

to be continued!

alikat is nuts

Is it just me or is it cool to talk in third person? Nope? I’m crazy then. Certifiable.

Geekzone

So for the last month or so, I have been a regular in the #geekzone channel on IRC. I know one thing is for sure – telecommunications FTW (For the Win… something I have learnt! Yay me!) It doesnt’ matter how many PCs or Macs in some cases you may have, how or if you overclock them, it all comes down to bandwidth, broadband, cellular and internet.

Afterall isn’t that the way we’re all communicating these days? Gone are the days of faxes. Sending a letter. Today I get my mobile, landline and broadband bills by email. I get my power bill by email and I wish that the ARC, Papakura Council, United Water would all follow suit and email me account. It takes so many days to send a letter, yet I can get my bill in seconds.

Speaking of billing and slow to bill. Vodafone fail. Their billing system rolls over at midnight on the 19th of each and every month. They haven’t even so much as even sent me an email to say my bill is ready, but I did get a text from them this morning about my accounts and that was just after 6am. Thanks for the wake up call guys. And thanks for taking 10 days to let me know that on the next business day you’ll be taking the money out of my account. Vodafone Fail.

Aside from Vodafail making my morning a misery. The weather is adding to it as well. Its 26 deg here in South Auckland and a whole 80% humidity. Walking to the fridge burns up a sweat. I have purchased water bottles from the stupidmarket and labelled them with Hamster and Chopper so we know who’s is who’s water bottle. I feel the need for a cold beer, but we’re off to a BBQ tonight, hopefully.

I wish someone would show my mother how to keep a cellphone on her and make sure its charged…..
